primtech Success story: EnBW AG in Germany
Project planning and documentation of high-voltage substations

About EnBW AG

EnBW AG is the third largest energy company in Germany headquartered in Karlsruhe. The company focuses on the electricity business. Their activities cover a wide range from power generation and trading up to grid and gas.

The project

EnBW Regional AG engaged our team to design a solution that rationalizes the workflow of grid design (new projects and extension of 330/220/110/20 KV-plants). The main objective was to significally reduce the time for:

Design: The focus here was mainly on the design of different substation location variants.
Approval: Creating all relevant plans for the approval process.
Construction: Creating complete installation and factory plans including bills of material.

Realization

These requirements were the basis of the specification sheet. This was the initial phase of our meanwhile wellknown software solution primtech.
After the successful introduction of the system we decided - together with the Siemens branch "Power Transmission and Distribution" - to consider also the requirements of manufacturers of high-voltage switchgears. The consequence was the development of a software application that supports the user throughout all design phases of substations e.g. project planning, maintenance and documentation - in short primtech.

Results

By using primtech the time for design and implementation of switchgears was significally reduced. Tailored specifically to the needs of substation designers primtech provides easy and fast derivation and calculation of different variants.
Drawings and various bills of material (cables, clamps etc.) are always up to date and can be easily created by the push of a button.
By means of analysis functionality and automatic drawing creation the designer is relieved from routine tasks. The replication module provides world-wide intercompany workflow.
For future projects the reuse of existing data will save both time and costs.
